FREE WATER - Most house and shed roofs provide a good catchment area to harvest the rainwater that falls from the sky. After your initial investment in a tank and installation, there are no further costs except for power to run a pump if one is required and some basic maintenance, a regular service offered by Queenslander Tanks.
Given the water is free, you should always install the largest tank or tanks you can afford or fit on your property. Most of us are fortunate these days that we can use rainwater to simply supplement our reticulated water supply, but an average family of four will need about 20,000 litres of storage to manage on a rainwater supply, and that is just personal use not gardening or washing cars etc.
How much free water can you collect? That depends on your roof collection area as each square metre of roof will collect about 1 litre of water for each millimetre of rain that falls on it. So if you have one downpipe that services 50 square metres of your roof running to a tank, you will collect about 47,300 litres in one year. That's based on the Bureau of Meteorology records for annual rainfall at the Brisbane Aero site.
If maths isn't you're game, use our Collection Calculator to do the numbers or call our Queenslander Tanks sales team on (07) 3488 0115 to design a rainwater collection and distribution system to suit your home and your budget.
